So Ive been window shopping for a replacement for the Monte Carlo (aka the blue turd) and came across this Impreza. Anyone have opinions or comments on the 2000 Imprezas? My wife drives a 2009 2.5i and we really like it.

Any big issues with this model, or the EJ22 engine.

The EJ22 is a beast, and for the most part doesn’t have any of the head gasket issues the EJ25 does. It’s a slow beast, but that’s not the end of the world.

In short, go for it.

Make sure the timing belt has been done, since the phase 2 EJ22 is an interference engine. Other than that, it's a lot more bulletproof that the EJ25 of the time.

That one looks unusually clean. Check and make sure the rear wheel arch (where the quarterpanel meets the bumper cover) hasn’t been cheaply repaired. Otherwise, looks awesome!

This is actually a really good car. The 2.2 is a very durable motor, my dad had a 98 that was at 250k and still going strong. That being said it is slow by modern standards and equipped like the econo box that it is. If body is good and it passes a mechanics inspection without any major issues I’d go for it.
